DRONES IN AGRICULTURE

Drones for Precision Agriculture

Agricultural drone service opens doors for small and medium producers to access technology that was only available to large producer via satellite.

  • Manually measuring plant characteristics is time-consuming. Drones capture more data in less time, allowing researchers understand how different breeds react to certain environments and modify desirable traits in order to improve yield.

  • We capture visible and non-visible spectral bands, as well as thermal imagery. From the different bands, it is possible to generate indices to detect early signs of crop stress and compare over time. Thermal imagery also provides valuable insights into plant health, since sick plants decrease transpiration and that is reflected into slight temperature changes.

  • Thermal imagery can provide powerful insights into water management, helping identify overspray or missed areas by the difference in crop and soil temperature.

  • Thermal imagery can help on the identification of irrigation leaks since water has a cooling effect on the vegetation. Areas with excessive irrigation will appear noticeable cooler than the rest of the field.

  • Multispectral data allows for easy identification of areas low in nutrients but also helps monitor the effects of fertilizer applications throughout the season and determine if, when, and where a new application is needed.

  • One of the advantages of a calibrated multispectral sensor is the generation of aligned outputs, which can be used to create digital surface models (DSM). A DSM provides insights terrain shape and can be useful for drainage management.

Micasense Altum Multispectral Agriculture Data

We rely on an advanced agriculture health payload Micasense Altum to deliver essential crop management information to our clients.

As all farming inputs are increasing in price due to supply chain disruptions, increasing environmental initiatives, and resource strain it is now more important than ever to manage farms in the most efficient manner possible. Utilizing commercial drones and their mapping services is a cost-effective, accurate, data-driven, and repeatable method to optimize farming operations as we provide actionable data regarding every pixel of mapped farmland.
